The reasons for this are as follows:

Pushback carts and rails are generally cheaper.

Performance is usually better. With pushback we have steel carts with steel wheels riding on steel rails – pallet quality is not as crucial as it is in flowrack applications.

Structural steel pushback carts are more abuse resistant compared to flowrack components.

That being said, we have supplied a few pushback rack systems where the circumstances warranted. In one case the client wanted to go 10 pallets deep, and our cart systems are limited to a maximum of 6 deep. If you are going to use pallet flow components in a pushback application, make sure that:

The pallets are good quality and consistent.

One way brakes are included. Never consider a deep lane pushback system with wheels or rollers that does not have brakes. If a pallet hangs up in the rear and then breaks free sometime later it could travel with excessive speed to the aisle and potential fall out of the racking – brakes are a must.

Testing is completed prior to building the system. At 3D we always like to test the pallets at our facility to make sure both the pallet and load are suitable and will work reliably in the storage system.

Questions?
